If you read our first blog, you know we’re talkin’ chakras (click here, if you missed it)! Last week, we focused on the first chakra, the Root Chakra (Muladhara). We talked about what a root chakra imbalance looks like and some things you can do to clear it.

This week is all about the second chakra, the Sacral Chakra (Svadhistana). The sacral chakra is located above the root chakra, in the pelvic area, and is associated with the element of water. It gives us fluidity in our thoughts and our bodies, sensuality within ourselves and our relationships and is responsible for our feelings, emotions and creativity. The second chakra is instrumental in developing flexibility in our life. It supports personal expansion and the formation of identity through relating to others and to the world.

Symptoms of Sacral Chakra Imbalance:

  • Dependency, co-dependency with other people or a substance that grants you easy access to pleasure.
  • Being ruled by your emotions.
  • The opposite: Feeling numb, out of touch with yourself and how you feel.
  • Overindulgence in fantasies, sexual obsessions.
  • Or the opposite: Lack of sexual desire or satisfaction.
  • Feeling stuck in a particular feeling or mood.
  • Rigidity

Things You Can Do for Balance:

Yoga Q & A - The SoulShine Way!!

Q: What is Yoga?

A: The term "yoga" encompasses many different things, but at its core, yoga is a mind-body practice that dates back to ancient India, which includes meditation, movement and breath-work used to optimize well-being.

Q: Who is Yoga For?

A: Yoga is literally for EVERYONE! There are many different styles of yoga - from gentle and slow to heated and extremely energetic - anyBODY can find something that feels good! It's important to try different styles and studios to find the right fit for YOU, because once you do, you'll find that yoga can greatly improve your life!

Q: Is Yoga a Religion?

A: The short answer is no. Even though yoga originated in Hinduism, its philosophies, movements, and teachings are applicable to ALL people, regardless of religious beliefs. At SoulShine Yoga, we welcome ALL faiths, and encourage everyone to use their personal practice to connect to whatever higher power makes THEIR soul shine!

Q: I Have __________ Injury, Can I Practice Yoga?

A: Many people with injuries can still practice yoga. As with any type of exercise, it is important to speak with your physician about your own limitations and abilities. At SoulShine Yoga, we attempt to offer yoga that helps as many people as possible, so we support an individual's body autonomy and responsibility. If you're unsure about which class is best for you, please give us a call and we'll be happy to assist!

Q: Why Should I Practice Yoga?

A: Yoga is a deeply personal practice. It can bring physical, emotional and spiritual peace to those who practice regularly, as well as assist us in dealing with our day-to-day stress.

Immerse Yourself!

If you are interested in really deepening your own yoga practice or in becoming a certified yoga teacher, SoulShine offers a Yoga Alliance certified Yoga Immersion/200 hour Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) which starts March 17, 2018 (more info on this can be found on our Facebook page, in the Events section).
